Suspects surrender after Stockholm shooting leaves one dead

Xinhua, August 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

Three suspects surrendered to police in the Swedish capital on Sunday after a shooting that left one dead and three people injured.

Shots were fired on a public square in the Stockholm suburb of Rinkeby in what police told daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter was the escalation of a family quarrel.

"The three men came in themselves to the police headquarters shortly after 5 p.m.," three hours after the initial incident, police spokesperson Kjell Lindgren told the paper.

A man in his 40s died after the incident, while another victim suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. Two others suffered minor injuries, likely from ricochets, police said.

Police did not suspect the gunfire was linked to local gangs or criminal activity.

Witnesses told the newspaper between four and six shots were heard shortly after 2 p.m.

One person said the deceased man was hit in the leg and stomach, while the person who sustained serious injuries was hit when trying to help him. Police classified the incident as murder. Endit
