Refugees demonstrate at Budapest's Eastern Railway Station

Xinhua, August 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Several hundred refugees gathered at Budapest's Eastern (Keleti) Railway Station at noon on Sunday, demanding to be allowed to travel on to Germany, Hungarian television channel M1 reported.

The refugees chanted: "Germany, Germany..." in English and also demanded a United Nations' presence. They illustrated their demand visually by giving Germany a "thumbs up" sign and Hungary a "thumbs down" one.

The demonstrators were protesting against Hungarian police, who prevented them from boarding trains leaving the country.

According to M1 television, police have increased their presence at the station and are preventing refugees from entering.

An on-scene interpreter said the refugees were furious about not being allowed to board trains, given that most had already purchased their tickets. Endit
