Maduro highlights benefits of comprehensive strategic partnership with China

Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro on Saturday handed over here the first 400 Chinese made Chery cars to several taxi companies.

The 400 cars manufactured by China's Chery Automobile Co. ltd was part of Venezuela's agreement with the auto maker to provide 20,000 cars that will arrive in Venezuela throughout this year.

During the event, the president highlighted the importance of the comprehensive strategic partnership with China, which has allowed the South American nation to develop in many areas and provide financing for social programs including transportation and housing, among others.

Along with the 400 cars, Maduro also handed over 150 Chinese made Yutong buses to some mass transportation companies. The buses will be used in various mass transportation systems in the country.

"Our goal is to receive 150 buses from Yutong this year and then promote local production similar to these units," he said.

In October, the Venezuelan-Chinese Yutong buses plant will be inaugurated in the western state of Yaracuy, according to the President. This would conclude an agreement made during Maduro's previous visit to Beijing in January.

"We have forged a true cooperation partnership with the Chinese government as well as with many companies that have allowed us to develop in numerous sectors," he said.

Maduro was scheduled to leave on Saturday to visit Vietnam and then will travel on to Beijing to participate in the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of China's victory over Japanese aggression and increase cooperation with new economic deals.

"One of the topics I will take with me to China is regarding discussing with companies how to adapt a production line in Venezuela with different types of trucks for freight transport which is urgent for our nation," he added.

China and Venezuela have signed numerous agreements in strategic areas, including 445 agreements in energy, infrastructure, agriculture, technology and education sectors. Enditem
