Algeria's Oran to host Mediterranean Games 2021

The Algerian city of Oran, 430 km western of Algiers, on Thursday has been selected to host the Mediterranean Games 2021 following a vote by the members of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG), in the Italian city of Pescara, Italy.
Algerian president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika congratulated Oran citizens and authorities for this achievement, saying in a letter: "I'm happy to hear the news of selecting the capital of the west to host this Mediterranean competition, it is an honour for both Oran and Algeria."
The governor of Oran, Abdelghani Zaalane, said telephone conversation with the state run television: "The city of Oran will be there; it is more than a challenge, it is a commitment for all of us, citizens and authorities, to be ready for hosting our guests in 2021."
Oran, or the capital city of western Algeria, contended against the Tunisian city of Sfax, as it was selected to host the Mediterranean Games 2021, with 51 votes against 17 for the Tunisian city.
The first and last time Algeria hosted the MG dates back to 1975 in Algiers, while the next games are due in the Spanish city of Tarragona in 2017.
