U.S. Taylor wins men's triple jump (updated)

Xinhua, August 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Christian Taylor from the United States won the men's triple jump with 18.21 meters at the world championships here on Thursday.

Taylor, 2011 champion, nailed the gold medal in his last attempt after his fourth jump 17.68 meters helped him from second to the first place.

"It was a great fight. I saved it until my last jump. When you are that close to a record this makes you even hungrier. This is absolutely amazing. God is great and today he worked through me," he said.

Meanwhile, 18.21 meters is second best on the all-time outdoor list, the world record of 18.29 was created by Jonathan Edwards 20 years ago.

"It was so close to the world record, this is what championships are all about. I am climbing up the all-time list. It is exciting for me that there is still more to come," he said.

The 25-year-old jumper now looks at Rio in 2016.

"I am looking forward to Rio with the other competitors, I am so delighted, thank you my coach!" he said.

Cuban Pedro P. Pichardo took silver with 17.73 meters and Portugal's Nelson Evora had bronze with 17.52. Endi
