Gothenburg city hall evacuated by bomb threat

The town hall of Sweden's second-largest city was evacuated on Wednesday following a bomb threat, local media reported.

A man entered the building in central Gothenburg during morning rush hour, put his bag down, and said it would "blow in ten minutes," daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter reported.

Police evacuated the building and cordoned off several blocks before destroying the bag some 50 minutes after the initial threat. Officers confirmed the bag had not contained explosives.

City politicians said no controversial items had been on the agenda for a municipal board meeting due to be held in the building on Wednesday morning.

Police questioned a man in his 20s who fit the description municipal employees had provided, but later let him go.

"There are other leads to go by. We will not say more right now," police spokesperson Thomas Fuxborg told the news agency TT. Endit
