Nepal decides to join Asia Cooperation Dialogue

epal has decided to join the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), officials of the Nepali government told Xinhua on Wednesday.

A meeting of council of ministers presided by Nepali Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Tuesday decided to intiate process for becoming Nepal a member of the ACD through the Kuwait-based ACD Secretariat, spokesman at the Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tara Prasad Pokharel told Xinhua on Wednesday.

"The government believes that Nepal's association with the Asia Cooperation Dialgoue will help in expanding Nepal's relations in the international arena as world's emerging economies China and India are also members of this organisation," the ministry spokeman said.

Nepal's engagement with the ACD will help further enhance its cooperation with the ACD member states on various fields such as economy, tourism, commerce, foreign direct investment and foreign employment among others, Spokesman Pokharel added.

The ACD was established in 2002 as an inter-governmental body with the objective of fostering economic cooperation among the Asian countries. Currently, 33 countries are members of the organisation including China and India. Endit
