Typhoon Goni to hit NE China

Xinhua, August 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) warned on Tuesday that Typhoon Goni is set to sweep the country's northeast, affecting farming there.

Goni is moving toward the northeast at a speed of 25 km per hour with weakening strength, and is expected to land near the borders of Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Thursday morning.

The typhoon will bring gales and torrential rain to the provinces of Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang from Wednesday to Friday, the NMC forecast.

The NMC warned that, because it is critical time for crop growth at present, strong winds and low temperatures will hamper their growth and probably lessen crop yields in the northeastern provinces, one of China's major grain production bases. Endi
