Xinhua, August 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Myanmar President U Thein Sein has called for nationwide efforts to do everything required to help victims of the severe flood, official media reported Tuesday.

U Thein Sein said at a construction planning meeting that most parts of the country had been affected by flood since June, with a damage bill of 109 million U.S. dollars when more than 5,000 buildings had been destroyed.

The reconstruction efforts will be spearheaded by the government, and it was necessary to provide relief aid to flood victims, he said.

According to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, nationwide death toll has reached 121 so far with Rakhine state suffering most casualties, and affected more than 1. 6 million people across the country.

The deadly flooding has also inundated more than 584,792 hectares of farmland, destroying 319,764 hectares across the country including 87,984 hectares in Rakhine state. Endi
