1st LD: Britain reopens embassy in Tehran

Xinhua, August 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Britain reopened its embassy in Iran's capital of Tehran on Sunday after four years of closure.

British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, who arrived in Tehran on Sunday, presided the reopening ceremony.

The silver-color signboard showing "British Embassy" was installed on the exterior wall of the Britain embassy's complex in central district of Tehran, replacing the Sweden signboard as Switzerland had been representing British interests in Iran during the embassy's closure.

Groups of local and foreign media, as well as hundreds of people, were present in front of the British embassy to witness the reopening of the embassy which was stormed by a group of angry Iranian students in 2011 to protest Britain's nuclear-related sanctions. Endit
