India says Pakistan's decision to call off security meeting "unfortunate"

Xinhua, August 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

India said late Saturday night Pakistan's decision to call off talks of national security advisors with India is "unfortunate."

Indian external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted: "Pakistan's decision is unfortunate. India did not set any preconditions."

"We only reiterated that Pakistan respects the spirit of the Simla and Ufa Agreements to which it was already committed," he said in another tweet.

Pakistan called off the talks after India insisted that no meeting was held between Pakistan officials and separatists in Indian-controlled Kashmir during the talks, which New Delhi said must be focused on terrorism.

India has also detained some Kashmir leaders who had flew to New Delhi to meet Pakistan's top security advisor.

India and Pakistan agreed to hold the meeting of their national security advisors when the prime ministers of the two countries met last month in Ufa, Russia. Endi
