Zambia summons nine foreign-based for Africa Cup qualifier

Xinhua, August 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

George Lwandamina, head coach of the Zambia national soccer team, has summoned nine foreign-based players, included two veteran strikers, ahead of next month's 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya, the country's soccer governing body said on Friday.

According to the website of the Football Association of Zambia(FAZ), the stand-in Zambian trainer has recalled in-form veteran striker Jacob Mulenga, who plays for Chinese side Shijiazhuang Yongchang and his South African based counterpart Collins Mbesuma, who plays for Mpumalanga Ace.

Mulenga is currently in fine form at his Chinese club, where he scored nine goals in 23 appearances.

Other foreign-based players called for the September 6 clash include Rainford Kalaba and Nathan Kalaba, both of Democratic Republic of Congo top side TP Mazembe, defender Stopilla Sunzu of French side Lille, midfielder Chisamba Lungu of Russian side FC Fural and goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene of the South African side Mamelodi Sundowns.

Davies Nkausu of South African side Bloemfontein Celtics and striker Ronald Kampamba, who plays for Egyptian side Wedi Degla, were also called in.

23 local players are already in camp preparing for the match.

Zambia's first Group E qualifier game was against Guinea Bissau, which ended in a barren draw.

Zambia will play against Kenya on September 6 away in Nairobi. Endi
