Burundi president sworn in for third term

Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza was sworn in for a third term in office on Thursday after a controversial presidential election held on July 21.

The ceremony took place at Kigobe Parliament House in the presence of the country's senior dignitaries including members of both chambers of the Parliament.

In his oath, Nkurunziza swore "fidelity to the Unity Charter, the national constitution and other laws and to fight for wellbeing of citizens."

In the oath, Nkurunziza also pledged to fight for peace, unity and ocial justice as well as to combat genocide and exclusion.

He also vowed to promote human rights and independence gains. Endit
