Brazil Serie A set for international breaks

Xinhua, August 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Brazil's Serie A season could pause for international fixtures, bringing the league in line with European competitions, the country's football federation (CBF) said on Wednesday.

The announcement follows widespread criticism from local clubs and players about the country's cluttered football calendar.

"Next year the CBF is looking at changes to help clubs," Brazil's national technical director Gilmar Rinaldi told media on Wednesday. "The president [Marco Polo Del Nero] and the board are already looking into it."

Critics say current rules mean clubs are effectively penalized for producing top-level players. Endi
