The Chinese embassy in Botswana on Wednesday handed over women's football kits including jerseys, footballs, and protective equipment to Botswana Football Association (BFA) in Gaborone.

The BFA faces multifaceted challenges, ranging from expertise, teaching and promotional material to football equipment and financial assistance, said BFA's Vice-President Suzie Montsho.

Montsho said Botswana women football is still at "infancy" stage but it has more potential for growth.

"We accept this donation with a deep sense of gratitude and as well as a renewed sense of hope," said the official. She called on all sides in Botswana to support Botswana football, including the diplomatic community.

Since establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Botswana 40 years ago, the Chinese embassy has always been trying best to consolidate its friendship with Botswana. To this end, the donation is just one part of the embassy's serious efforts, said Li Nan, Charge d'affaires of the Chinese embassy in Botswana.

Football is one of the most popular sports around the world, the embassy hopes the donations are helpful, and can support BFA's calls for women sports development, said Li. Endit
