76ers' Joel Embiid has foot surgery

Xinhua, August 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid underwent surgery for the second time on his right foot on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old Embiid was the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft. He missed all of his rookie year after having surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot in June 2014.

How the 7-footer from Kansas re-injured his foot is unclear. The injury was discovered in June during a routine checkup in San Francisco which revealed that Embiid's foot was in worse condition than it had been in his previous evaluation.

"We will now move into the first phase of the recovery process, which will include a focus on general health and fitness, as well as non-weight-bearing movement for the injured limb," said David Martin, the team's director of performance research and development.

"We will incorporate a broad network of resources into Joel's return to play program, one that we believe will give him the best opportunity to make a complete recovery." Endi
