Tokyo shares ended the trading Wednesday sharply lower following poor performances of other stocks markets.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 331.84 points, or 1. 61 percent, from Tuesday at 20,222.63.
The turnover was about 2,425.4 billion yen (about 19.52 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- Chinese shares regained territory on Wednesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.23 percent to close at 3,794.11 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index gained 2.18 percent to close at 12, 960.66. The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, rose 2.66 percent to end at 2,570.69.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 307.12 points, or 1. 31 percent, to 23,167.85 on Wednesday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 23,138.73 and 23, 586.79. Turnover totaled 91.77 billion HK dollars (about 11.83 billion U.S. dollars).

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower on Wednesday.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) declined 16.88 points, or 0.86 percent, to 1,939.38 at the close. Trading volume stood at 498.93 million shares worth 7.1 trillion won (6 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- Australian stocks closed higher on Wednesday with energy leading the market on the back of reliance in the oil price and a recovery of finance stocks.
At the official 4:15 (AEST) close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 rose 77.1 points, or 1.45 per cent, to 5380.2, while the broader All Ordinaries improved 70.4 points, or 1.33 per cent, to 5379.8.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.15 percent higher on Wednesday.
The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 11. 28 points to 7344.73. The all-share index went up by 4.60 points, or 0.11 percent, to 4188.58.

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 1.9 percent on Wednesday with the weighted index down 155.38 points at 8,021.84, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in southern Vietnam,closed at 577.82 points on Wednesday, down 2.4 points, or 0.41 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.
About 106.329 million shares worth 1.894 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (86.52 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.
VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 608.91 points, down 2.89 points, or 0.47 percent.
