Chinese vice premier meets founder of Bloomberg L.P.

Xinhua, August 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli on Tuesday met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's special envoy for cities and climate change Michael Bloomberg in Beijing.

Bloomberg, who was New York City's 108th mayor, began his career in 1966 at Salomon Brothers, a Wall Street investment bank, and launched Bloomberg L.P. in 1981, a financial news and information company.

Addressing climate change is the joint undertaking of mankind. China will maintain its national strategy on climate change, and work with the United Nations and other countries to establish a fair system for global climate governance, Zhang said.

The system should follow the principles of common but differentiated responsibilities, equity and respective capabilities, he added.

The vice premier also briefed the guest about China's economy, saying that the country has overall achieved a stable performance while at the same time securing progress in its economic development, and the fundamentals of the economy remain sound on the whole.

President Xi Jinping is scheduled to pay a state visit to the United States in September, Zhang said, noting that it is the most important thing in China-U.S. relations this year and the two sides should make joint efforts to deepen practical cooperation and make steady progress in the building of a new type of major-country relationship.

Bloomberg said China has made great efforts and played an important role in coping with climate change.

Bloomberg L.P. is willing to cooperate with China in the internationalization of the renminbi and green finance, he said. Endi
