3 civilians killed in IED blast in N. Afghanistan

Xinhua, August 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Some three civilians were killed while two others wounded in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in northern Afghanistan's province of Kunduz on Tuesday, police said. "The explosion occurred in the morning when a vehicle touched off an IED along a main road in outskirts of provincial capital Kunduz city. All five people aboard the vehicle were affected by the blast and the casualties were shifted to a hospital in the city," provincial police spokesman, Sarwar Hussainee, told Xinhua.

He blamed the Taliban militant for planting the IED.

The insurgent group has largely been using home-made IEDs to launch suicide attacks and roadside bombings against security forces but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.

Nearly 1,600 civilians were killed and more than 3,300 others wounded in conflicts and attacks in the first half of the year, according to UN mission figures. Endi
