Sergio Ramos signed a new contract that will keep him at Real Madrid until 2020 and insisted that "his heart had always been with Real Madrid."
The 29-year-old made the declarations at the signing ceremony held at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Monday. An event which brushed over the fact that during the negotiations for the deal that will keep him at Real Madrid until he is 34, he had asked the club to sell him to Manchester United.
Real Madrid refused to do that, but Ramos has now seen a hefty pay increase to around 10 million US dollars a year.
"As I said when I was first presented here, it is a dream to form part of this club and I want to enjoy it for as long as possible," said Ramos, who gave his thanks to club President, Florentino Perez, his agent, who is also his brother, the fans and his family.
He admitted the negotiations had been "long" , but said it was an "honor and a privilege to be part of Real Madrid and also to be the captain." Endi
