Thanasi Kokkinakis, the other Australian tennis player at the center of the Nick Kyrgios sledge towards world No.5 Stan Wawrinka, has talked on Monday for the first time since the incident.
Speaking to local news service Fox Sports, Kokkinakis revealed he has "cleared the air" with both Wawrinka and Kyrgios, but said he had stern words to his compatriot after he heard about the errant sledge.
Last week during a match with the Swiss No.5, Kyrgios muttered under his breath that Kokkinakis had slept with Wawrinka's current girlfriend, Donna Vekic.
Kokkinakis, who had dated Vekic previously, said his good friend and one-time junior double partner had quickly apologized for involving him in the furore, however the 19-year-old South Australian informed Kyrgios that he "can't be doing that" in such a public setting.
"(Kyrgios) apologised to me," Kokkinakis said.
"I let him know, I made it pretty clear that he can't be doing that. If he's got a problem, he's got to say it in private. The way he went about it definitely wasn't the right thing."
Kokkinakis said he was watching the match at the time, but was unaware that any comments had been made until his phone went "crazy" with notifications.
"I was watching it but I didn't actually know it happened," said Kokkinakis.
"I found out via one of the Fox Sports guys that sent me a tweet. It was pretty crazy what happened.
"Obviously he shouldn't have said what he said under the circumstances. But yeah, it is what it is and, yeah, got to move past it now."
Kokkinakis also talked about the confrontation he had with American 23-year-old player Ryan Harrison over the weekend.
Harrison made inflammatory comments against both Kokkinaki and Kyrgios, which included the American saying "your whole crew is just so cool" in a derogatory manner during the match.
Kokkinakis said he didn't like the on-court treatment, and was nearly involved in an altercation before the chair umpire stepped in to separate the pair.
"(I) didn't agree with what he said to me because I think I did nothing to provoke him, but he brought up some stuff that I don't agree with, and it is what it is, but I' ll keep that on the court," Kokkinakis told Fox Sports.
"At the net I just told him I didn't agree with what he said.
"He says 'good match' and he thinks it's just fine when you say that. I told him that wasn't the case." Endi
