Tokyo stocks open higher in early trading after Wall Street gains

Tokyo stocks opened modestly higher in early trading Monday as investor sentiment was boosted following gains in U.S. stocks before the weekend.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 129.64 points, or 0.63 percent, from Friday to 20,649.09. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 10.76 points, or 0.65 percent, to 1,675.22.
