Syrian airstrikes against a rebel bastion east of the capital Damascus Sunday killed around 82 civilians and injured over 250 others, a monitor group reported.

Syrian warplanes fired several missiles against the sprawling suburb of Douma, in the eastern countryside of Damascus, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, adding that the death toll may rise as there is a substantial number of critically wounded people. (Syria-Airstrike)

HONG KONG -- An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted 173km WNW of Panguna, Papua New Guinea at 21: 05:12 GMT on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 68.5 km, was initially determined to be at 5.7709 degrees south latitude and 154.0144 degrees east longitude.(Papua New Guinea-Earthquake)

JERUSALEM -- Riots against the force-feeding of a prisoner on hunger strike broke out outside a hospital in a southern Israeli city Sunday, a spokesperson for Israeli police confirmed to Xinhua.

Over 200 people gathered outside Barzilay hospital in Ashkelon Sunday where Mohammad Allen, 31, is hospitalized in critical condition following his 61-day hunger strike.(Isreal-Riots)

STOCKHOLM -- One person died and parts of a unique historical neighborhood were damaged on Sunday in a fire in southern Sweden.

Rescue workers found a 25-year-old woman dead among the ruins after a blaze broke out among wooden houses built in the 16th century in the town center of Eksjo, some three hours' drive south of the capital.(Sweden-Fire)

BRUSSELS -- The European External Action Service (EEAS), or the European Union (EU)'s foreign policy arm, on Sunday expressed condolences over a deadly suicide attack taking place at the political camp of the home minister of Pakistan's east Punjab province.

At least 15 people were killed, including Punjab province home minister Shuja Khanzada, and over 10 others injured, in the attack that occurred earlier on Sunday.(EU-Pakistan-blast) Endit
