India summons Pakistani envoy over alleged ceasefire violations in Kashmir

Xinhua, August 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

India summoned Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit on Sunday to lodge a strong protest over alleged ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir region, during which six Indian civilians were killed in the past two days, local media reported.

Basit was summoned to the External Affairs Ministry by Secretary (East) Anil Wadhwa who conveyed to the envoy the strong protest over the "unprovoked firing" by the Pakistani troops along the LoC, the local daily The Hindu quoted official sources here as saying.

There has been escalation of tension between the two countries following terror attacks in Punjab and Kashmir and incidents of ceasefire violations ahead of talks between their National Security Advisers (NSAs) scheduled for later this month, according to the newspaper. Endi
