Nearly 100 children fell ill on Saturday after consuming sweets distributed by a village head in the eastern Indian state of Bihar's Darbhanga district to celebrate Independence Day, said local media.

Indo-Asian News Service quoted police as saying the incident took place in Ranipur village in Darbhanga, about 200 km from the state capital Patna. (India-Food Poisoning)

ANKARA -- Three soldiers of the Turkish security forces were killed and six others wounded in a bombing explosion in Bingol province in eastern Turkey on Saturday, local Hurriyet newspaper reported.

The bomb was planted by the militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) and was detonated as an armored vehicle carrying the soldiers passed by Hacilar Mevkii region, according to the report.(Turkey-Attack)

MOSCOW -- Russian aviation authority Rosaviatsiya said five people were killed and 11 survived in a Mi-8 helicopter crash in Russia's Khabarovsk region, the TASS news agency reported Saturday.

The Interfax news agency earlier cited an unnamed source saying six people were killed, but its latest report said 11 of the 16 people onboard survived, citing the Russian Emergency Ministry's Far Eastern regional center. (Russia-Crash)

ROME -- At least 40 illegal immigrants died and 319 were saved on Saturday off the Libyan coast in the Mediterranean sea, Italian media reported.

According to Italian TV Rai24 news, the Italian coast guard found and rescued an overcrowded fishing ship, founding at least 40 illegal migrants died of suffocation. (Italy-Libya-Immigrants)

SEOUL -- South Korean President Park Geun-hye on Saturday urged Japan to back words with actions in historical issues, referring to the statement issued by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

"The Japanese government should back its open declaration of inheriting history perception of previous cabinets in the future with consistent and sincere actions to win trust from neighboring countries and the international society," Park said at a ceremony to mark the 70th anniversary of the Korean Peninsula's liberation from the 1910-45 Japanese colonial rule.
