The four African representatives at the on-going 2015 Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia failed to make it to the medal bracket.
Zambia who failed to get out of the preliminary round were joined by Uganda who lost all their three matches in the quarter final stage, while Malawi and South Africa also found the going tough when it mattered most to get into the last four.
On Friday Uganda fell 72-31 to second ranked New Zealand in a Group E match. Uganda's England based professional Peace Proscovia scored 19 points, while Racheal Nanyonga picked 11 from 18 attempts. New Zealand who are now favourites to win the World Cup trophy had Malia Paseka score a game high 49 points from 55 attempts.
In their earlier Group E matches Uganda She Cranes lost 59-53 to Malawi and 59-47 to Jamaica. "I think our team has played well and deserve a big thanks. They were playing against top sides that have all the experience," Nicholas Muramagi, the Assistant general Secretary National Council of Sports (NCS) told Xinhua.
For Malawi who beat Uganda in the first Group E match in the week they needed to beat Jamaica to qualify for the semis, but lost by a single point 63-62. Equally England humbled Africa's top ranked South Africa 62-46 in a Group F match to deny them chance of progressing.
Uganda She Cranes will now face South Africa, while Malawi take on Wales on Saturday in 5th to 8th classification matches. The top four ranked countries by the International Netball Federation (INF) Australia, New Zealand, England and Jamaica will now battle at the semi final stage on Saturday as well. Endit
