Chinese shares closed mixed on Friday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.28 percent to close at 3,965.34 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.38 percent to close at 13,445.87 while the ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, shed 0.38 percent to end at 2,674.02.
Total turnover of the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses grew to 1.22 trillion yuan (191 billion U.S. dollars) from 1.08 trillion yuan on Thursday.
Market sentiment has shown signs of improvement as the Chinese currency halted a three-day slide following the central bank's reassurance on Thursday that the yuan would not face long-term depreciation. It also vowed to prevent excessive swings in the yuan's exchange rate.
The central parity rate of the yuan strengthened by 35 basis points to 6.3975 against the U.S. dollar on Friday, the first increase since the central bank adopted a more market-based foreign exchange rate formation mechanism on Tuesday.
More than 1,200 shares made money and around 140 rose by the 10-percent daily limit. The real estate and cement industries were among the day's biggest winners. Endi
