Nepal gears up for rebuilding: officials

Xinhua, August 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nepal has made all preparations to go for the country's rebuilding without any further delay, officials say.

The Nepali government appointed key officials of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) on Thursday in view of expediting works relating to the post-earthquake reconstruction, government spokesman Minendra Rijal told reporters.

"We will officially begin our work from Friday. I am very much hopeful that we can build back better Nepal," newly-appointed CEO of the authority Pokharel told Xinhua.

A massive earthquake and aftershocks struck the Himalayan nation on April 25, killing around 9,000 people and leaving 22,000 injured with thousands of houses destroyed or damaged.

Nepal needs 6.7 billion U.S. dollars in short and medium terms for recovery of sectors including education, health and tourism, according to a report of the Post Disaster Needs Assessment carried out by the National Planning Commission. Endi
