Myanmar's parliament sessions to resume amid flood rehabilitation

Xinhua, August 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Myanmar's parliament sessions at three levels, which have been adjourned due to nationwide flood disaster, will resume next Tuesday, according to an announcement of the parliament made public on Wednesday.

At a time when rehabilitation work in the post-disaster period is being carried out and the parliament needs to complete discussions on some draft bills and deal with parliamentary affairs in time, the regular 12th parliament sessions are to be resumed, the announcement said.

The parliament sessions were adjourned since July 24 as deadly flood, triggered by heavy rainfall since June, has affected 13 regions and states in Myanmar, destroying houses, farmland, railway lines, bridges and roads.

The Myanmar government declared on July 31 four disaster zones namely Rakhine, Chin, Sagaing and Magway.

Flood water is starting to recede in some parts of the disaster- stricken areas. Endi
