Suspect in failed poisoning of Benin's president returns from exile

Xinhua, August 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Beninese businessman Olivier Boko, suspected of involvement in an attempt to poison Benin's President Boni Yayi and planing a coup, returned to the country on Monday night after spending two years in exile in Paris, France.

His return comes 15 months after Yayi announced he had forgiven all those involved in the cases.

He was received at the Cotonou airport by numerous individuals, especially opposition political leaders and civil society actors.

The cases of attempted poisoning of the president and planing a coup date back to the period between October 2012 and February 2013. Beninese businessmen Patrice Talon and Boko were accused of being the masterminds.

On May 14, 2014, at a time when the two cases were still in court, Yayi declared through a statement that he had forgiven all those accused of involvement in both cases. Endit
