A live-fire military drill kicks off in E. China

Xinhua, August 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) started a joint military drill in the eastern city of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, on Tuesday.

Coded "Joint Action-2015B," the drill was organized by the PLA Nanjing Military Area Command.

A statement from the military area command said the drill, which is joined by personnel from the army, navy, air force and artillery, will test the troops' joint operations using digitized commands and information.

Exercises including long-distance delivery, joint intelligence reconnaissance and joint computer-coordinated bombardments, are among the focuses of the exercises, according to the statement.

They are expected to improve the troops' capability of reacting in dangerous and changing circumstances, the statement added.

"Joint Action-2015B" is one of the five similar drills involving more than 140,000 troops from over 140 PLA regiments of various types.

Organized by the PLA Chengdu Military Area Command, "Joint Action-2015D," began on Monday in a plateau area in the southwestern province of Sichuan and is the first of the five. Endite
