Millions of Filipino in Manila affected by water cut

Xinhua, August 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Over 3 million people in parts of Metro Manila have to live without water supply from Monday to Wednesday as local water provider began its pipe realignment project, local media said on Tuesday.

Among the affected areas in the metropolis are Caloocan, Las Pias, Makati, Manila, Muntinlupa, Paraaque and Pasay, while in Cavite are Bacoor, Cavite City, Imus and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario.

At least six universities in Metro Manila have suspended their classes on Tuesday, because their campuses would be affected by the scheduled water interruption.

"The three-day gap between the scheduled interruptions will allow affected Maynilad customers to replenish their stock of water," Maynilad, the local water provider, said in a statement last Friday. According to their plan, Maynilad would deploy 35 trucks to ration water to affected consumers.

The water service interruption will pave the way for a flood control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways. Endi
