Uganda Cranes plan Ethiopia build-up ahead of Afcon qualifier

Xinhua, August 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Head coach of Uganda Cranes, Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic has said plans are underway to have an International friendly against Ethiopia later this month.

"We need to have an international build-up before our 2017 Africa Nations Cup qualifier away to Comoros on September 5th. We are already in talks with the Ethiopian FA and I am sure this international friendly will take place perhaps on our way to Comoros," Sredojevic told Xinhua.

The Serbian born coach explained that although Comoros are lowly ranked by the world football governing body FIFA he will not underrate them. "Every team must be respected especially when they play at home. We shall need a second win to stay on course in the qualifiers," added the coach.

Uganda Cranes beat Botswana 2-0 in the opening Group D match of the qualifiers in June. Giants Burkina Faso who are also in the same group also won their match away to Comoros by the same score.

Uganda are currently ranked 74th according to the latest FIFA rankings released last week in Zurich, Switzerland.

Sredojevic has said some of the up-coming matches including the build-up and the 2016 Africa Nations Championship qualifier against Sudan will count a lot in Uganda improving in the rankings. Endi
