1st LD: 6.4-magnitude earthquake jolts parts of Pakistan

A 6.4-magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Pakistan, including the capital city Islamabad, on Monday, the meteorological office said.

The office said the quake jolted the country's Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces at 1005 GMT.

It also hit parts of Pakistan-administered Kashmir where several houses were damaged.

The epicenter of the quake was determined at the Afghanistan- Tajikistan border with a depth of 208 km.

Director General of Pakistan Meteorological Department Ghulam Rasool told the media that the magnitude of the quake was 6.8, but later his office revised it to 6.4 on its website.

Local disaster management authorities said no casualties were immediately reported. However they were checking with their sub- offices rescue teams for any possible damage.

The quake created panic among the people who rushed out of their houses. Endi
