Police arrested a suicide bomber alive but the blast of his suicide vest injured a police in Gereshk district of the southern Helmand province on Monday, Gereshk governor Fahim Musazai said.

"A terrorist wearing explosive vest entered the office of district governor to blow himself up but was arrested by police at 12:15 p.m. local time (0745 GMT). However, his suicide vest exploded after being taken away from his body, injuring a police," Musazai told Xinhua.

An official in Gereshk district confirmed earlier that the suicide bomber blew himself up inside the district compound.
