Indonesia pins hope to seize int'l badminton championship at home

Xinhua, August 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indonesia pinned high hope on Sunday to win some trophies in the 2015 World Badminton Championship to be held from Aug. 10-16 in the capital city's landmark badminton arena of Istora Senayan.

The hosts hoped that strong supports from domestic badminton enthusiasts would spur their spirit to win their matches and eventually grab several championships.

However, the expectation would be a hard task as none of Indonesian players won in the recent Indonesia Open Super Series held in June.

"After the championship in Chinese Taipei, we are physically and mentally ready to seize the championship held at home. The only thing that we would care about is the strategy to win the match," Nitya Krishinda Maheswari, an Indonesian women's doubles player told a press conference here ahead the championship.

She was accompanied by parter Greysa Polii and other Indonesian players.

Nitya and Greys won the women's doubles in 2015 Chinese Taipei Open badminton championship in July after trashing China's Luo Ying and Luo Yu in the final.

Nitya and Greysa are highly expected to win the women's doubles in the upcoming tournament.

Tommy Sugiarto, an Indonesian men's singles player said that everyone has the equal chance to win the match.

"The only difference is their preparation and strategies to win the match," said Tommy who failed in Indonesia Open as he was defeated by German Marc Zwiebler in the qualification round.

Seasoned players from several countries have confirmed their presence in the upcoming World Badminton Championship to be participated by more than 400 players.

Among those were Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia and his arch rival from China, Lin Dan. Endi
