Ugandan Premier League sides SC Vipers, SC Villa register for CAF competitions

Two Ugandan Premier League sides have finally confirmed participation in the 2016 Confederation of African Football Federation (CAF) competitions.

Edgar Watson, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ugandan FA, confirmed to Xinhua on Saturday that the two clubs SC Vipers and SC Villa had beaten the CAF deadline to register for the events.

SC Vipers who won the 2014/2015 Uganda League title will represent the country in the lucrative CAF Champions League, while SC Villa who won the Uganda Cup will play in the CAF Confederations Cup.

"I am happy to inform the public that we have now confirmed we shall have two clubs represent Uganda in the CAF competitions," added Watson.

The Uganda FA official explained that although the two competitions will take place next year, CAF wanted to plan early and therefore asked all clubs in Africa that qualified to represent their respective countries to confirm participation.

Tadius Kitandwe, the SC Vipers chairman, also confirmed that they had entered the CAF Champions League.

"But we shall keep working hard to make sure we retain the League title because these matches will also help us prepare better for the international competitions," added Kitandwe.

KCCA FC and URA FC represented Uganda in the 2015 CAF competitions but failed to qualify for the late stages. Endi
