Germany's benchmark DAX index closes down

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Friday dropped by over 90 points and closed at 11,490.83 points.

Disappointing economic data from Germany weighed on the blue-chip index, which lost 94.27 points, or 0.81 percent, according to local analysts.

The risers posted small gains. K+S Aktiengesellschaft, an agricultural chemical and salt company, topped the list of risers with an increase of 1.1 percent. Volkswagen AG Vz gained 0.85 percent. BMW AG St advanced by 0.76 percent. HeidelbergCement AG added 0.71 percent. LANXESS AG, a special chemicals company, went up by 0.41 percent.

Merck KGaA, a pharmaceutical, chemical and life science company, lost 3.78 percent. Commerzbank AG slipped by 1.58 percent. Deutsche Boerse AG, slid by 1.58 percent. Bayer AG plunged by 1.54 percent and SAP SE went down by 1.5 percent.

The turnover stood at 2.72 billion euros (around 2.99 billion U.S. dollars). Daimler AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 251.4 million euros. (1 euro = 1.10 U.S. dollars) Endit
