Natural disasters kill 104 in July

Xinhua, August 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Natural disasters killed 104 people across China in July, with 4 still missing and 56 million people affected, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs Friday.

Disasters resulted in direct economic losses of 60.6 billion yuan (9.9 billion U.S. dollars), forced 2.2 million people to evacuate their homes and resulted in the collapse of 62,000 buildings, said a report on the ministry website.

The natural disasters included drought, floods, typhoons and earthquakes.

More than 8.2 million hectares of crops were affected and about one million of them went unharvested.

In July, central authorities allocated 720 million yuan for disaster relief, offering 6,200 tents and 15,000 quilts to victims of the disasters. Endi
