Crowds brave rain to participate in Singapore's Golden Jubilee celebrations

Xinhua, August 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Singapore's Jubilee weekend started with heavy rain, but nothing could dampen the spirits of thousands of people to participate in celebrations.

As part of Singapore's Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Black Knights planned to perform a 25-minute aerial display above the waters off the Marina South area from Friday to Sunday, the National Day. The aerial display comprises 22 maneuvers, as well as an opening and closing.

Even though the Black Knights performance was truncated due to the heavy rain, large numbers of people still gathered at the Marina Bay area, recording fantastic moments of the performance with their cameras.

The first of five Families for Life SG50 picnics during the Jubilee Weekend also kicked off with about 10,000 participants at the Marina Barrage earlier on Friday.

Some 9,000 people also took part in the annual Community Chest Heartstrings Walk around the Marina Bay area. Nearly 2 million Singapore dollars was raised at the walk.

The walking event was flagged off by Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, and Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong surprisingly joined the community at the end of the fun walk. Endi
