Argentina certain that Beijing 2022 Olympics will be successful

Xinhua, August 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Undersecretary for Sports of Buenos Aires, Francisco Irarrazaval, stated on Thursday that the Beijing 2002 Winter Olympic Games would be a "success", since the city organized "an extraordinary event" with the 2008 Summer Games.

In an interview with Xinhua, the executive stated that the learning period that Beijing underwent in 2008 would guarantee that the Games would go well in 2022.

"The choice of Beijing proves that China has taken its rightful place in the world through sport, its commitment to the Olympic movement and the legacy it has left behind for other cities," said Irarrazaval.

He added that "Beijing 2008 was an extraordinary event, which was very well organized and left a great legacy to the world".

He named China as a "country with a rich and ancestral culture, with kind and helpful people".

"The country never stops growing as it is always taking on new challenges," he indicated, before praising the "organization, respect and order" of Beijing's authorities and citizens.

Beijing was chosen to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games at the 128th IOC session last week in Kuala Lumpur, beating out the other candidate, Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Buenos Aires will host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games, following on from Nanjing in 2014. Endi
