2nd LD: 13 killed in suicide blast at mosque in Saudi Arabia

Xinhua, August 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thirteen were killed and nine others injured on Thursday in a suicide blast targeting a mosque in the south of Saudi Arabia, Saudi Press Agency confirmed.

Ten of the dead were policemen and three were workers in the mosque in the city of Abha, where they were performing afternoon prayer. Three of the injured are in critical condition, Saudi Interior Ministry spokesperson said in a statement.

Initial investigation indicated that the blast was caused by explosive belts.

This was the third suicide blast that targeted mosques in Saudi Arabia in recent months. The Islamic State (IS) militant group claimed responsibility for the first two blasts.

Saudi Interior Ministry announced in July that its intelligences have succeeded in foiling four mosque attacks in Ramadan and arrested 431 IS members. Endit
