Roundup: Police capture militant involved in attack on convoy of border guards in Indian-controlled Kashmir

Indian police said Wednesday they has captured a militant and killed his associate responsible for attack on a convoy of India's Border Security Force (BSF) in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Two Indian border guards were killed and 13 others wounded in the attack that took place in the morning at Chenani area of Udhumpur district, about 205 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Two heavily armed militants fired indiscriminately on a BSF bus which was a part of the convoy on Srinagar-Jammu highway," a police officer said. "In the attack, 15 BSF men were wounded, out of which two succumbed to their wounds."
Police said a militant was killed during the attack, while the other one took three civilians as hostage and tried to escape in nearby forest area.
"After few hours of military operation, we ultimately succeeded in rescuing the hostages and the militant was caught alive," the officer said.
An Indian television news channel NDTV quoted Danish Rana, a senior police officer in Jammu, as saying their preliminary questioning has revealed that the militant hails from Faislabad in Pakistan.
India's official broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) said Director General of BSF D K Pathak has rushed to Jammu to take stock of the situation in wake of the deadly attack.
A guerrilla war is going on between militants and Indian troops stationed in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989. Gunfight between the two sides takes place intermittently across the region.
New Delhi accuses Islamabad of sending armed militants to Indian-controlled Kashmir. However, Islamabad says it only provides moral and political support to Kashmiris.
The two nuclear neighbors share strained relations and efforts from both sides to normalize ties so far have failed to succeed.
Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir. Endi
