New Zealand strengthens education links with Vietnam

Xinhua, August 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

New Zealand education institutions look set to expand their market in Vietnam after the renewal of an education cooperation arrangement, New Zealand Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister Steven Joyce said Wednesday.

Joyce and Vietnam's minister for education and training, Pham Vu Luan, signed the arrangement in Hanoi at the second New Zealand- Vietnam Education Forum.

The arrangement would strengthen New Zealand education providers' links with Vietnamese partners and underpin the development of more partnerships in areas such as teaching qualifications.

"About 60 percent of Vietnam's population of 90 million people are under the age of 30, and Vietnam is focused on improving education standards to ensure students can contribute fully to the country's development," Joyce said in a statement from his office.

"This presents a big opportunity for New Zealand to deliver more joint education initiatives with local partners who are focused on building skills for the workforce, and also to grow the number of Vietnamese students spending some time studying in New Zealand." Endi
