Two border guards of India's Border Security Force (BSF) were killed Wednesday after militants attacked their convoy in Indian- controlled Kashmir, police said.

A militant was also killed in the attack, while nine other BSF men were wounded.

The attack was carried out in Chenani area of Udhumpur district, about 205 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian- controlled Kashmir.

"Militants today attacked a convoy of BSF here, which resulted in killing of two personnel besides wounding nine others," a police official posted in Udhumpur said. "A militant was also gunned down in the exchange of fire."

Officials said they have rushed contingents of police and military to the area, and suspended traffic on the road.

"An exchange of fire is still going on," a local said.

A guerrilla war has been going on between militants and Indian troops stationed in the region since 1989. Endi
