Armed robbers arrested in NE China

Xinhua, August 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Police in northeast China's Jilin Province have arrested two people suspected of stealing hundreds of pieces of gold jewelry in an armed robbery.

Two masked robbers with a self-made shotgun and knife broke glass counters and stole 209 items worth more than 1.1 million yuan (about 180,000 U.S. dollars) from a gold shop in Baishan City of Jilin on Thursday afternoon, according to the provincial public security department.

They fled the site by motorbike, it said.

Around 550 police officers caught two suspects in local mountains on Saturday and Monday respectively. The jewelry was recovered at the site.

Investigators have found the two knew each other through instant messaging platform and agreed to rob a gold shop together. Endi
