Iran resumes natural gas flow to Turkey

Xinhua, August 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Iran resumed its natural gas flow to Turkey after six days of halt when an explosion hit the pipeline in Turkey, Tasnim news agency reported on Monday.

Iran started the gas exports on Sunday night after the pipeline was repaired, Manouchehr Taheri, the dispatching director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), was quoted as saying.

Some 20 million cubic meters of natural gas is exported to Turkey via the pipeline, Taheri said.

The Iran-Turkey natural gas pipeline in the eastern Turkish province of Agri was attacked last Monday, and Iran stopped gas flow to its neighbor after the pipeline was exploded.

Turkey's energy system has recently suffered several terrorist attacks. The Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline in the province of Sirnak in southeastern Turkey was also attacked last Tuesday.

Turkey has blamed the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) as being behind the attacks. Endit
