Human rights group demands probe into murder of Mexican journalist

Xinhua, August 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Mexico's National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) demanded on Sunday that authorities carry out a full investigation into the murder of photo journalist Ruben Espinosa Becerril.

Espinosa was found dead in the Narvarte district of Mexico City on Saturday along with four women. He had been shot with two bullets to the head, while the bodies showed signs of torture and sexual assault.

In a press release, the CNDH asked the relevant authorities to use all means necessary to determine the motive for the killing spree to stop a growing feeling that the crimes are going unpunished.

The photo journalist, who had worked for Proceso magazine, the Cuartoscuro and AVC Noticias press agencies, left for Mexico City in June. He had received various death threats while working in the state of Veracruz. He had made a number of criticisms against the state government. Over the last three years, 13 journalists have been murdered in the state. Endi
