Tunisia will extend by another two months a state of emergency imposed in the country in early July after a deadly attack on a tourist resort in Sousse city, a presidential statement said on Friday.
"After consultations with the prime minister and lawmakers, the president decided to extend the state of emergency for more two months as of August 3," according to the statement.
On July 4, Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi declared the state of emergency, a week following the deadly attack in Sousse, which left 38 tourists, mostly British, dead.
Another 38 people were injured in the attack. Seifeddine Rezgui, the assailant, was shot dead by the counter-terrorism units.
Security measures have been tightened since the attack, and a new counter-terrorism bill was passed by the parliament on July 25.
The old law had been in place since 2003, under the government of former President Zine al Abidine Ben Ali. Endit
