Xinhua, July 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

Uganda's team that will take part in the 2015 Netball World Cup in Australia next month has been named the official tourism brand ambassadors.

Vincent Mugaba, the spokesperson for the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) confirmed to Xinhua that since the team is going to carry the country's flag high at a World Cup event, they deserve to be the the official brand ambassadors.

He said the Uganda She Crane will promote the visibility of Uganda both locally and at the International level. "Tourism is not only an aspect of wildlife and heritage, but also sports," he added.

Susan Nowel Anek Ongom, President Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) told Xinhua on Thursday that they are very happy that the national team is now the official tourism brand ambassadors for Uganda. "This is a very good step because it will help the sport grow and perhaps also help us tap more funding as we promote Uganda," added Ongom.

The She Cranes captained by Peace Proscovia are expected to depart on Saturday ahead of the World Cup which runs August 7-16 in Sydney, Australia. Uganda is pooled alongside Fiji, Wales and Zambia in Group D.

Speaking about the team's readiness for the event, newly appointed coach Rashid Mubiru told Xinhua that although his team are underdogs, they will take every game as it comes. "Our target is to qualify for the knock out stage and this will call for hard work because we are facing experienced sides," added Mubiru.@ The teams that will compete for the coveted Netball World Cup trophy include Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, England, Jamaica, Scotland, Samoa, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
